Vibrant ruby red oval shaped leaves and contrasting green stems for babyleaf salads. Erect habit. Maintains colour undercover where it can be sown nearly all year round. Mild brassica flavour and commonly used as spinach in Asia.
Sowing instructions – Babyleaf production
Sow thinly into containers of damp multipurpose or seed compost and lightly cover seeds with sieved compost. Keep the compost damp but not wet. Seedlings will appear within 3-10 days. Keep weed free and well-watered when established. In cooler weather water less frequently. Harvest the baby leaves when large enough to cut. Use scissors to snip off a few from each plant at 2.5cm (1in) from the base. Avoid damaging the central growing point of the plant and allow the remaining leaves to grow on. Feed with a general purpose feed after cutting to support new leaf growth.
