    Plant into well-prepared soil, planting at a depth of 10-15cm (4-6in) with tubers spaced 30cm (12in) apart. If you have an allotment or are particularly fond of Jerusalem artichokes, space rows 1.5m (5ft) apart.


    As these plants do grow tall, they can make an effective screen, but may need some support in very exposed and windy sites. A cage made from stout stakes and strong twine will suffice. When foliage starts to turn yellow in autumn, prune to leave 8cm (3in) stumps above ground level. Place the prunings over plants to keep the soil warm and aid lifting of tubers in frosty weather.

Although it boasts attractive yellow flowers perched on 3m (10ft) stems, it is mainly grown for its below-ground tubers that can be cooked or eaten raw. Needing plenty of space to grow, this perennial is ideal when planted as a windbreak or screen

      Backorders: Many of our products will be made available to order in advance, any items showing as ‘available on backorder’ will only be shipped once they become available. We do not send out split orders, any order containing a back ordered item will be sent out together once that item becomes available. If something is required immediately please order it separately.

      Delivery and Collection:

      Collection and Delivery options will be available on checkout. We try to get in stock orders boxed and shipped within 48hrs and often orders placed before 10am are shipped the same day. In busy periods however lead times could be extended. Orders containing plants will only be shipped Monday to Thursday (10am cut off) so they are not sat in boxes over the weekend. If you order after 10am on a Thursday you will not receive your order until Tuesday Seed only orders - £2.00: For orders that contain only packets of seed P&P is £2.00 to anywhere in the UK Standard Delivery - £4.95: Our standard P&P charge is £4.95 to Mainland UK Plants and Seed Potato - £6.95: These products will be subjected to a higher P&P fee of £6.95 due to the extra handling of plants and the extra weight with seed potatoes. Plants and seed potatoes delivered to the Scottish Highlands, Islands and Northern Ireland will incur a surcharge of £8.00 (postcodes listed below) Free Delivery – Over £50: Order over £50 will be delivered free of P&P charges Collection – Nursery: Click and collect is available from the nursery all year around by arrangement. This option can be selected at Checkout. We will then contact you to arrange a collection day and time. Collection – Potato Day: During check out you will have the option to select collection from one of our potato days. Please remember these are one day events so you must be able to collect on that specific day. There will be no charge for this service.
